Dog Acupuncture

Cat and Dog Acupuncture

Acupuncture has a long and storied history in human medicine, but it has also gained traction as a viable treatment for dogs and cats. The treatment involves placing very small acupuncture needles at certain points on the body to stimulate the release of natural pain-relieving, anti-inflammatory, and healing chemicals.

Acupuncture is a versatile therapy that can be used for many different conditions, including arthritis, nausea, allergies, and neurologic disorders. At LePar Animal Hospital, our acupuncture patients see us roughly once a week for 3-4 weeks of treatment. Pets that are geriatric and/or living with chronic disease may need to extend their treatments to keep their clinical symptoms under control.

While acupuncture requires the use of needles, the treatment itself causes minimal discomfort and for some pets, may even be relaxing. A consultation is required to decide whether acupuncture is the best choice for your dog or cat, and from there, we can discuss how to tailor the treatment to their specific condition and needs.

Pet Chiropractic Care

Veterinary
Chiropractic Care

Veterinary chiropractic treatments are a foundation for achieving and maintaining optimal health in your pet. These treatments are primarily recommended for pets with previous back and neck issues, as well as those involved in rehabilitation. Chiropractic adjustments facilitate normal movement in the spinal column, limbs, and pelvis, and are critical to preventing injuries in athletic dogs and reducing pain and inflammation in injured pets. We typically see chronic patients once, then two weeks later, then two months later, depending on how well they respond to treatment.

LePar Animal Hospital has a separate, dedicated facility for pet rehabilitation and physical therapy, called Chicago Animal Rehab (CARE). In addition to medications, supplements, acupuncture, and chiropractic adjustments, our connection to CARE gives your pet access to hydrotherapy, laser therapy, electric stimulation therapy, ultrasound therapy, massage, and therapeutic exercise.
