What is Doggie Daycare?

What is Doggie Daycare?

Doggie Daycare at Lepar Daycare will consist of dogs spending the day playing and socializing with other dogs and people. Dogs will be split into play groups based on size and temperament. These playgroups will be supervised by our well-trained daycare staff.

Throughout the day, dogs will be rotated outside to relieve themselves and also to take brief rests. These rest periods are important, as they allow dogs to take a break from the action of the playgroup and have some time to relax. This is vital to maintaining the stability of the playgroup. This practice is also applied in the amount of allowed consecutive visits to daycare. Due to dogs needing rest in between large bouts of play, we do not allow dogs to attend daycare more than three days a week.

While Lepar Daycare wants to create a fun environment for your dog, we also take the safety of all dogs in our care very seriously and thus do not allow toys on the play floor. Toys can cause some dogs to resource guard or become possessive, which could lead to aggressive behavior.

Water will be provided all day to dogs, and our staff can also administer medications your pet may require.

We look forward to working with your dog to harbor a fun, safe environment to promote socialization and strengthen the human-animal bond.

Temperament Testing

Temperament tests are held on Mondays & Wednesdays & to ONLY be scheduled by the daycare manager, with the manager present that day.

Temperament tests are 4 hours long with a drop off time of 7am & pick up time of 11am.

Why that time frame & what to expect?
Being the first dog here helps ensure a calm entrance. During the first hour, the testing dog will spend 1-on-1 time with a daycare handler. During that time, they'll interact by allowing removal of belongings, pets, playing with toys & offering treats ONLY IF THE OWNER APPROVES.

Once the daycare managers feels that testing dog is comfortable with our daycare staff, we'll begin to introduce the testing dog to 1 daycare dog at a time. The daycare dog chosen should match the testing dog's personality & energy level as best as possible. This is one reason why having the daycare questionnaire on file is important, the responses from the owner will give us information on the testing dog & how they do in dog socialization settings.

The testing dog should be put on a lead, held by the daycare handler that is working with them. The daycare manager will then bring a suitable daycare dog into the room & waiting on the other side of the gate with them, allowing the 2 to sniff each other. If the testing dog does well with the sniff test, the daycare dog will then be let into the room with the testing dog. During this time, we will begin monitoring the testing dog's body language for any signs of FEAR, ANXIETY, or AGGRESSION that staff feel it would be unsafe to continue or have in daycare on a regular basis.

We allow the testing dog & the daycare dog time to get to know each other & play before we introduce another daycare dog to the room. This is done until we we have a playgroup formed for the testing dog. During the test, we will introduce the testing dog to our play yard and give them a resting break to make sure they are comfortable being in a kennel.

If the testing dog is doing well, but staff feel they would benefit from a happy visit, the daycare manager will notify the owner of this. Happy visits can be scheduled any day of the week that the daycare manager is here.

If we observe any of the warning signs in the testing dog, and staff feels they're unfit for daycare, we will stop the temperament test & the owner will be notified by the daycare manager. The testing dog will then have to be picked up as soon as possible.
