FUN STAFF FACTS

Dr. Schumacher was a founding member of a mobility service dog training program during her undergraduate career. The organization, Illini Service Dogs, is still around today!

Dr Angela Shumacher

Dr. Schumacher grew up in Downers Grove and always had a love for animals, a trait she inherited from her mom. She cared for just about anything her parents would let her have as a child including a dog, cat, rabbit, a pair of cockatiels, and too many mice to count. She also always had a love for learning and strong interest in medicine. Dr. Schumacher originally went away to college with intent to become a human physical therapist, but during her junior year, realized that she could still pursue a career in medicine while incorporating her lifelong love of animals. She attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign for both her undergraduate degree in Kinesiology and also her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine, graduating with highest honors.

Dr. Schumacher has a long history at LePar Animal Hospital that started in December 2010 when she first shadowed Drs. Bauer and Whalen to see if being a veterinarian was truly what she wanted to pursue, and shortly after joined the LePar team as an employee. She worked during her school breaks, working her way up from kennel attendant to veterinary assistant and now doctor! Dr. Schumacher enjoys building long term relationships with her clients and their beloved pets. She loves the diversity of cases she gets to see, but has special interests in dermatology, internal medicine, and dentistry.

When she is not working, Dr. Schumacher loves to travel with her high school sweetheart husband, spending time on Caribbean beaches and hiking the mountains out West. She is excited to instill this love of both travel and animals in their daughter as well. Dr. Schumacher is also an avid Labrador lover, sharing her home with two perfect black labs named Oskee and Zami.
