FUN STAFF FACTS
When not working, Dr. Smothers loves to travel – she has been to all 50 states and 4 continents, just a few more to go!
Growing up in Southern Illinois, Dr. Smothers always had a strong interest in animals. There was always a collection of animals at her house to take care of, and she also had the opportunity to grow up riding and working with horses at several local stables. She loved learning about the animals, and with her strong interest in science and medicine, veterinary medicine was the perfect career for her.
She started working at a local veterinary hospital in high school, where she worked throughout her undergraduate degree and her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Illinois. Her combined background as a pet owner, veterinary assistant for almost a decade, as well as a veterinarian provides her with a unique perspective on the needs of not only her patients but also the people who love them.
Outside of work, Dr. Smothers shares her life with her husband, 2 year old son, and (soon – to – be) newborn daughter. She enjoys anything outdoors, whether it is hiking, camping, golfing, trying out new breweries and wineries with her husband, or just playing with her kids at the park.
